Jackass 3.5 Coming to a Site Near You

MTV Films and Paramount Digital Entertainment have so much extra footage from Jackass 3-D — which has grossed $155 million at the box office since premiering in October — that the two companies are releasing a whole other movie.

But instead of shelling out $13 to see the latest set of asinine stunts undertaken by Johnny Knoxville and company, fans will likely be able to watch Jackass 3.5 for free on the Web in March.

While details are still being worked out, MTV and Paramount are planning to release Jackass 3.5 online in a series of weekly installments. According to an MTV spokesperson, while the companies are still evaluating distribution options, it’s possible that Jackass 3.5 will be available on sites like MTV.com — as well as on various video-on-demand platforms.

Once all the cutting-room-floor material has been delivered online, MTV and Paramount plan to release Jackass 3.5 as a complete movie on multiple digital platforms as well as home video. It is unclear whether that full-length version of the movie will be free for viewers to stream with ads or sold via platforms like Apple’s iTunes.
But clearly, Paramount and MTV want to capitalize on the buzz generated by the successful third chapter of the film franchise as quickly as possible.

The two companies made a similar move in 2007, when Jackass 2.5 was released online. According to officials, that digital movie garnered over 20 million views on the Web and reached the top spot on the iTunes sales chart during its first week of release.
