The still blockbuster singing competition, which featured the music of Elton John last night, beat the four competing networks combined with a 15.6 rating/24 share from 8-10 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown: American Idol (Fox)8:00 p.m.: 14.2/23 (#1)8:30 p.m.: 15.7/24 (#1)9:00 p.m.: 16.0/24 (#1)9:30 p.m.: 16.4/25 (#1) Since Casey Abrams was saved by the judges last week, two contestants depart tonight. My picks are Naima Adedapo and Thia Megia. Distant second-place CBS opened with still must see Survivor: Redemption Island (#2: 6.6/10 at 8 p.m.), followed by underrated Criminal Minds (#2: 8.1/12 at 9 p.m.) and spin-off Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior (#1: 6.1/10 at 10 p.m.). While Suspect Behavior did outdeliver NBC’s competing Law & Order: SVU (#2: 5.9/10) by three percent in the overnights, SVU is likely to win the hour among adults 18-49. And CBS can do better in this time period next season. Comparably, retention for Suspect Behavior out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of Criminal Minds (8.1/12) was 75 percent. Earlier in the evening on NBC was flop game show Minute to Win It (#4: 2.3/ 4), which is absolutely lost opposite both American Idol and Survivor, and a repeat of Law & Order: SVU (#4: 2.7/ 4) from 8-10 p.m. ABC populated the 8-9:30 p.m. block with two repeat episodes of The Middle (#3: avg. 3.2/ 5 from 8-9 p.m.) and Modern Family (#3: 3.9/ 6). Minus the lead-in support, original installments of Mr. Sunshine (#3: 3.1/ 5 at 9:30 p.m.) and Off the Map (#3: 3.0/ 5 at 10 p.m.) dipped to series lows. The CW capped off the evening with deteriorating America’s Next Top Model (#5: 1.9/ 5), which dropped by a hefty 39 percent from the comparable year-ago evening (3.1/ 5 on March 31, 2010), and colossal non-scripted flop Shedding for the Wedding: #5: 0.7/ 1). To shake up the mix next season, maybe Top Model should consider doing an all male edition. Source: Nielsen Media Research data (R = repeat) Ratings Box:What’s Hot/What’s Not -Solid Start for Body of Proof:Long-awaited ABC crime solver Body of Proof, headlined by Dana Delany, was amply sampled out of Dancing With the Stars in the Tuesday 10 p.m. hour on March 29. Body of Proof finished first in the time period with 13.94 million viewers and a 3.1 rating/8 share among adults 18-49. Also populating the hour were CBS’ The Good Wife (Viewers: #2, 10.16 million; A18-49: #2t, 1.9/ 5) and Parenthood on NBC (Viewers: #3, 4.89 million; A18-49: #2t, 1.9/ 5). Season to-date, One Born Every Minute is averaging 831,000 total viewers in the Tuesday 10 p.m. hour -- up 20 percent from the comparable year-ago period. Results demographically have risen by as much as 37 percent in women 18-49. -HBO Cancels In Treatment:HBO has passed on a fourth season of half-hour drama In Treatment, with Gabriel Byrne as a 50-something a psychotherapist. Season three sunk to an anemic 237,000 viewers and a mere 0.1 rating among adults 18-49. -Charlie Sheen Update:Let’s see…it’s been about one week since I wrote anything about good ‘ol Charlie Sheen. On that note, the former Two and a Half Men star will make an appearance on Drew Carey’s Improv-A-Ganza, a new primetime daily comedy-driven strip on GSN that premieres on Monday, April 11 at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET/PT. Sheen will appear on the episode airing Tuesday, April 12. Sheen has more legal woes, meanwhile, after being sued by a man who claims the actor and his family nixed a planned reality series featuring his estranged uncle Joe Estevez. -Upcoming at Bravo:Bravo will introduce 11 new series over the course of the next year, plus the returns of Top Chef Just Desserts, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Bethenny Ever After and Tabatha’s Salon Takeover. The new series include Interior Therapy with Jeff Lewis, with the house-flipper taking on the role of a therapist; Mad Fashion, which focuses on celebrity fashion designer Chris March; real estate-driven Million Dollar Listing NY; Miss Advised, which explores three single relationship experts; Most Eligible: Dallas, the tale of a group of Texas socialites; The Therapists; Project Soulmate, which focuses on New York City matchmaker Lori Zaslow; fashion-driven Ready to Wear; Roble and Co., a behind-the-scenes look at a family owned catering business in Brooklyn; and Tabatha Takes Over, which follows the demanding perfectionist as she takes over various small businesses and family enterprises and whips them into shape. -Executive News:Scott Koondel has been appointed SVP, Corporate Licensing and Distribution for CBS Corporation. In his new role, Koondel will work closely with CBS divisions across the company to maximize the value of domestic distribution agreements for CBS-owned content, as well as content for which CBS has obtained format and distribution rights.
