But ABC inched past CBS in adults 18-49, with a one-tenth of a rating point advantage. The CW once again managed to finish third overall in the demo. CBS’ Medium opened the evening on a winning note, with 7.34 million viewers and a 1.4 rating/5 share among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m. But the network has confirmed that the canceled thriller will air its final episode on Jan. 21. No replacement has been announced yet. Next on the Eye net was relocated CSI: NY (Viewers: #1, 10.24 million; A18-49: #1t, 1.6/ 5 at 9 p.m.), followed by freshman Blue Bloods (Viewers: #1, 11.31 million; A18-49: #2, 1.6/ 5 at 10 p.m.), which both deserve accolades cracking the 10-million viewers mark this low-HUT level evening. ABC started out slow and built as the night progressed with its line-up of Supernanny (Viewers: #2, 4.13 million; #2t, 1.1/ 4), Primetime: What Would You Do? (Viewers: #3, 4.96 million; A18-49: #1t, 1.6/ 5) and 20/20 (Viewers: #2, 6.83 million; A18-49: #1, 2.0/ 6). Comparably, 20/20 rose to its highest-rated telecast in adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 since Jan. 8, 2010. Over at NBC, there was nothing positive of note with recent entry School Pride (Viewers: #5, 2.54 million; A18-49: #5, 0.6/ 2), which will be replaced by returning Who Do You Think You Are? on Jan. 21, a one-hour edition of Dateline (Viewers: #2, 5.77 million; A18-49: #3, 1.2/ 4), and 10 p.m. special Harmony: A Film Inspired by the Prince of Wales (Viewers: #3, 3.71 million; A18-49: #3, 0.9/ 3). The Prince of Wales was the Prince of Failure, no doubt, on NBC. Soon-to-be revamped Fox remained out the competitive loop care of a House encore (Viewers: #3, 3.37 million; A18-49: #2t, 1.1/ 4) and departing The Good Guys (Viewers: #4, 2.71 million; A18-49: #4, 0.7/ 2). And The CW was consistent with veteran Smallville (Viewers: #5, 2.60 million; A18-49: #2t, 1.1/ 4) and Supernatural (Viewers: #5, 2.03 million; A18-49: #4, 0.9/ 3). Effective on Jan. 21, Fox will populate Fridays with returning non-scripted Kitchen Nightmares at 8 p.m. followed by relocated Fringe at 9 p.m. one week later. Needless to say, this will not benefit struggling Fringe. CBS aired repeats of NCIS: Los Angeles (Viewers: #1, 5.41 million; A18-49: #3, 1.0/ 3) and Criminal Minds (Viewers: #1, 5.77 million; A18-49: #3, 1.2/ 4) from 8-10 p.m., followed by veteran 48 Hours Mystery at 6.81 million viewers (#1) and a 1.4/ 5 among adults 18-49 (#2) at 10 p.m. 48 Hours Mystery was the most-watched show of the evening. One week earlier, week one of Conan was notably stronger at 2.93 million viewers, 2.16 million adults 18-49 and 1.50 million adults 18-34. But compared to the season one average for former time period occupant Lopez Tonight (Viewers: 910,000; A18-49: 558,000, A18-34: 315,000 in 2009-10), this was still a major increase of 89 percent in total viewers, 131 percent in adults 18-49 and 161 percent among adults 18-34. If Conan settles in at this level, TBS has a late night hit on its hands. -Record Baggage on GSN:Two runs of game show Baggage on GSN (at 6:30 p.m. ET and 9:30 p.m. ET), hosted by Jerry Springer, broke the cable net’s record books with a combined 1.2 million viewers on Wednesday, Nov. 17. Vernon Kay hosts, with commentary from Tanith Belbin, the most decorated American ice dancer in Olympic history. _____________________________________________________________________ TV Tidbits:Notes of Interest -CBS’ Medium Officially Axed:One month after CBS slashed the episode order for Medium from 22 to 13 comes word that the Patricia Arquette thriller has been officially canceled. The final episode of Medium airs on Friday, Jan. 21 and no officially replacement has been announced yet. -Speaking of Cancellations:Long-running Ace of Cakes on Food Network has received its walking papers. The upcoming 10th edition, which begins in January, will be its last. -Harry Potter on ABC Family:ABC Family has acquired the final two chapters of the Harry Potter film franchise -- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 (in theaters on July 15, 2011) – in a deal with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. -Fox in Midseason:Fox has unveiled its programming plans for midseason, which will include five new series (sitcoms Mixed Signals, Breaking In and the animated Bob’s Burgers; crime drama The Chicago Code; and game show The Million Dollar Money Drop); the return of American Idol and Kitchen Nightmares; and new time periods for Human Target, Fringe, American Dad, The Cleveland Show and, in a surprise move, aforementioned American Idol. Only Saturday, featuring perennial occupants Cops and America’s Most Wanted, will remain unchanged. The re-tooled American Idol opens season 10 on Wednesday at 8 p.m. (with a two-hour installment on Jan. 26), followed by the second weekly telecast (and live results show) in the Thursday 8 p.m. hour. Sophomore Human Target shifts to Wednesday at 9 p.m. out of Idol until April 6, when Idol is pared down to 90-minutes and into new sitcom Breaking In at 9:30 p.m. Headlined by Christian Slater, Breaking In is set at a high-tech security firm that takes extreme – and sometimes questionable – measures to sell their protection services. The Thursday edition of American Idol will lead into Bones, which shifts back one hour to 9 p.m. On Monday, medical drama House leads into crime solver The Chicago Code, which will follow three sets of law enforcement officers including uniformed beat cops and the female chief of police. Encore telecasts of Glee leads into new game show Million Dollar Money Drop at 9 p.m. for five weeks on Tuesday beginning on Jan. 4. Effective on Feb. 8 is new episodes of Glee and freshman sitcom Raising Hope from 8-9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, leading into new comedy Mixed Signals at 9:30 p.m. Mixed Signals tells the story of three longtime friends (Kris Marshall, Nelson Franklin and Alexandra Breckenridge) and their attempts to balance their relationships with their need for freedom. Friday will open with returning non-scripted Kitchen Nightmares at 8 p.m. beginning on Jan. 21, followed by relocated Fringe at 9 p.m. one week later. Sunday’s three-hour sitcom block will kick-off with encore episodes of The Simpsons and relocated American Dad from 7-8 p.m. effective on Feb. 13. Next, of course, is the original installment of The Simpsons at 8 p.m., followed by new animated comedy Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, and a 9:30 p.m. installment of sophomore The Cleveland Show. Bob’s Burgers features a third generation restaurateur running a hamburger joint, his nervous wife and their three underachieving children.
