Guardian Acquires ContentNext Media

NEW YORK In a bid to expand its U.S. footprint, British publisher Guardian News & Media acquired ContentNext Media, the online media hub best known for its flagship PaidContent.org.

ContentNext, founded in 2002 and based in Santa Monica, Calif., and New York, provides industry news and information to executives in the media, entertainment and technology sectors, in addition to running a complementary events business. Along with PaidContent.org, which focuses on digital content, its sites include MocoNews.net, covering mobile content; and ContentSutra.com, covering digital content in India.

ContentNext will continue to be run as a standalone business by its founder and editor Rafat Ali and its CEO Nathan Richardson. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition marks the latest move by Guardian News & Media, publisher of the Guardian and Observer newspapers, to grow its presence in the U.S. In October 2007, it launched Guardian America, a news and commentary Web site aimed at a U.S. audience. It also has struck a pact with Reuters to sell ads in the U.S.
