Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 33 percent at this same point last year to approximately 38 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted. ---------- -Friday’s Winners:CSI: NY (CBS), Blue Bloods (CBS), 20/20 (ABC) -Honorable Mention:Smallville (CW) -Friday’s Losers (excluding repeats):Supernanny (ABC), Movie: A Walk in My Shoes (NBC), The Good Guys (Fox), Dateline (NBC) ---------- -Ratings Breakdown:CBS led this first Friday in December, with an advantage over No. 2 ABC of a hefty 4.20 million viewers and seven percent among adults 18-49. Needless to say, CBS’ combination of canceled Medium (Viewers: #1, 6.83 million; A18-49: #$1, 1.4 rating/5 share), relocated CSI: NY (Viewers: #1, 10.19 million; A18-49: #1, 1.7/ 6) and freshman Blue Bloods (Viewers: #1, 11.36 million; A18-49: #2, 1.7/ 6) are all older skewing. At press time, CBS has still not announced what will air in the Friday 8 p.m. hour in midseason. ABC populated the evening with the final season of Supernanny (Viewers: #3, 4.20 million; A18-49: #2, 1.1/ 4), which is certainly ready to bid adieu, Primetime: What Would You Do? (Viewers: #2, 4.81 million; A18-49: #2, 1.4/ 4) and 20/20 (Viewers: #2, 6.78 million; A18-49: #1, 1.9/ 5), which deserves positive mention for the double-digit growth. Comparably, 20/20 rose to its second best performance this season in total viewers and adults 18-49, while tying its season-high among adults 25-54 (2.6/ 7). Elsewhere, original NBC made-for movie, A Walk in My Shoes, was no walk in the park in the ratings, with just 4.49 million viewers (#3) and a 1.0/ 3 among adults 18-49 (#3t) from 8-10 p.m. That led into a one-hour edition of Dateline, which finished a distant third with a mere 3.12 million viewers and a 0.7/ 2 in the demo at 10 p.m. Fox barely resonated with two episodes (repeat and original) of canceled The Good Guys as follows: The Good Guys (Fox)8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 1.99 million (#5), A18-49: 0.7/ 2 (#5)9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 2.45 million (#4), A18-49: 0.7/ 2 (#5) As a reminder, Fox’s non-scripted Kitchen Nightmares will air in the 8 p.m. hour on Friday effective on Jan. 21, leading into relocated Fringe at 9 p.m. (beginning on Jan. 28). Moving Fringe to low-HUT level Friday is unlikely to be beneficial. The CW, meanwhile, remained on the Friday map care of veteran Smallville (Viewers: #4, 2.79 million; A18-49: #2t, 1.1/ 4), which concludes this spring, and Supernatural (Viewers: #5, 2.13 million; A18-49: #3t, 1.0/ 3). Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 33 percent at this same point last year to approximately 38 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted. --------------- -Saturday’s Winners: Big 12 Football Championship (ABC) -Saturday’s Losers (excluding repeats):Movie: Evan Almighty (CBS) and the night overall ---------- -Ratings Breakdown:The Big 12 Football Championship, Nebraska vs. Oklahoma, on ABC stood well up the Saturday competition, with an average of 8.23 million viewers and a 2.4 rating/8 share from 8-11 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown: Big 12 Championship (ABC) 8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 7.35 million (#1), A18-49: 1.9 rating/7 share (#1) 8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 8.25 million (#1), A18-49: 2.3/ 8 (#1) 9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 8.21 million (#1), A18-49: 2.3/ 7 (#1) 9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 9.06 million (#1), A18-49: 2.6/ 8 (#1)10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 7.87 million (#1), A18-49: 2.3/ 7 (#1)10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 8.62 million (#1), A18-49: 2.7/ 8 (#1) One year earlier, Nebraska vs. Texas in the Big 12 Championship was considerably stronger on ABC with 12.69 million viewers and a 4.0/12 in the demo on Dec. 5, 2009, based on the final nationals. But the Nebraska/Oklahoma match-up is still considered a “winner” for low HUT-level Saturday. Fox, of course, aired its perennial combination of Cops (two repeats – Viewers: #2, avg. 4.79 million; A18-49: #2, avg. 1.6/ 5) and America’s Most Wanted (Viewers: #2, 4.96 million; A18-49: #2, 1.6/ 5) which finished third overall in total viewers and second among adults 18-49 for the evening. Elsewhere, CBS aired theatrical Evan Almighty (Viewers: #3, 4.58 million; A18-49: #3, 1.3/ 4 from 8-10 p.m.), followed by old faithful 48 Hours Mystery at 5.68 million viewers and a 1.3/ 4 among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m. -- second in both categories. Third overall was CBS, followed by ABC, which is no longer the force it once was on Sunday. The Pittsburgh / Baltimore match-up on NBC averaged an approximate 14.5 rating/22 share from 8:30-11 p.m., with the half-hour breakdown as follows: Sunday Night Football (NBC) 8:30 p.m.: 13.7/21 (#1) 9:00 p.m.: 14.7/21 (#1) 9:30 p.m.: 15.2/22 (#1)10:00 p.m.: 14.2/21 (#1)10:30 p.m.: 14.9/23 (#1) Earlier in the evening on NBC was pre-game Football Night in America as follows: Football Night in America7:00 p.m. – part one: 1.9/ 3 (#4)7:30 p.m. – part two: 3.8/ 6 (#4)8:00 p.m. – part three: 8.8/14 (#1) Keep in mind, of course, that results for any live sporting event are always approximate. An approximate 30-minute primetime football overrun kicked-off the evening for Fox with a massive 20.0/32 in the overnights at 7 p.m., leading into post-game The OT at a very dominant 12.4/20 at 7:30 p.m. With stronger lead-in support, granddaddy The Simpsons perked up to a 6.7/10 at 8 p.m. (#3), followed by a one-hour Hanukkah-themed episode of The Cleveland Show (#4: 4.3/ 7 from 8:30-9:30 p.m.) and American Dad at 9:30 p.m. (#4: 3.6/ 5). While the gang at Wisteria Lane are no longer the force they once were, growth of a hefty 59 percent for Desperate Housewives out of the 8:30 p.m. portion of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (5.1/ 7) is worth positively noting. Source: Nielsen Media Research data____________________________________________________________________________ Ratings Box:What’s Hot/What’s Not -The NBA Scores on TNT: Through the first 14 games of the NBA season, coverage on TNT has built year-to-year by 38 percent in households (1.3 to 1.8), 45 percent in total viewers (1.96 to 2.85 million) and as much as 51 percent among adults 18-49 (1.10 to 1.66 million) and adults 18-34 (653,000 to 983,000). TNT will broadcast 52 regular season games this season and will serve as the exclusive home to NBA All-Star Saturday Night and the 2011 NBA All-Star Game from Los Angeles, as well as over 40 NBA playoff games and the Eastern Conference Finals. -Record Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC:Based on the live plus same day ratings for the week of Nov. 22, Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC rose to its most-watched week ever with 2.23 million viewers, and a season-high among adults 18-49 (792,000). Comparably, this was Kimmel’s sixth consecutive week of year-to-year increases in total viewers. Tuesday’s telecast with Dancing with the Stars winner Jennifer Grey (2.87 million) ranked as the largest single-night telecast of the late night franchise in six months. But the network has cut its episode order from 22 to 18 due to the continued low ratings. The last telecast remained third in the Monday 10 p.m. hour with 6.03 million viewers and a 1.6/ 4 among adults 18-49. -Breaking Bad Encores:Back-to-back repeat episodes of AMC drama Breaking Bad will start airing every Wednesday this week, beginning with the pilot episode at 12:30 a.m. ET.
