DirecTV Q1 Profit Dips, While Subs Rise

DirecTV reported a lower first-quarter profit as it added 460,000 net new subscribers–its highest quarterly U.S. user gain in four years.

The satellite TV giant Thursday morning said net income attributable to the company fell 46 percent to $201 million.

Operating profit before depreciation and amortization declined 8 percent to $1.09 billion, and operating profit decreased 35 percent to $424 million.

Revenue rose 7 percent to $4.9 billion as U.S. net subscriber gains rose 67 percent over the year-ago period.
