Didn’t Catch NYC’s Gilmore Girls Coffee Shop Pop-up? Here’s What You Missed

Netflix turned 200 real-world locations into Luke's Diner

This morning, dutiful fans lined up around 200 local coffee shops, all in the name of Gilmore Girls.

As announced earlier this week, Netflix threw Gilmore Girls a birthday bash to commemorate the 16th anniversary of the show's premiere (a #Gilmoreversary, if you will).

The deal: From 7 a.m. until noon (and while supplies lasted), customers could get free coffee in a custom Luke's cup. Each cup contained Gilmore Girls quotes about coffee, including lines from the upcoming revival which premieres Nov. 25 on Netflix and includes an extra bonus gift from Netflix in the form of three free months of the service for nonsubscribers.

Here's what it was like at one location in New York:

No, that's not Luke himself. Baristas wore flannel shirts, Luke's branded aprons and iconic backward baseball caps in his honor.

Because this coffee shop was in New York, essentially all of these rules were broken. The line was constantly out the door, bringing lots of fans through. Most folks were young women who either grew up watching the show or recently discovered it when all seven seasons came to Netflix.

Each cup comes with a code for some free Netflix and a cute coffee quote. Plus, Netflix has completely built out the new hub for Stars Hollow, the fictional town where Gilmore Girls takes place.

With a cup of "diner" coffee in hand, thousands of fans across the country got to experience a bit of Stars Hollow for just a bit. Use #HappyBirthdayGilmore or #LukesDiner to see what it was like for other fans. Sami Main
