Cable goliath Comcast Corp. has picked up the embarrassing distinction of “Worst Company in America,” from Consumerist.com, a subsidiary of Consumers Union, publisher of Consumer Reports.

The timing couldn’t be worse. Comcast’s $30 billion bid to acquire 51 percent of NBC Universal is currently under review by government regulators. That became a factor in the 9,000 votes cast in the contest, which ended April 25.

“This tournament is a vehicle for us to get a pulse on what companies did wrong throughout the year to consumers,” said Meghann Marco, co-managing editor of Consumerist.com.
