-Ratings Breakdown:

The ongoing 2011 NCAA Basketball Tournament on CBS (which aired only on the Eye net and TBS on Friday) led the troops, with an estimated 8.03 million viewers and a 2.7 rating/9 share among adults 18-49 from 8-11 p.m.  Here is the half-hour breakdown:

NCAA Basketball (CBS)

 8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 6.36 million (#1), A18-49: 2.0/ 8 (#1)

 8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 6.99 million (#1), A18-49: 2.1/ 7 (#1)

 9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 7.04 million (#2), A18-49: 2.3/ 7 (#1)

 9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 7.84 million (#2), A18-49: 2.6/ 8 (#1)

10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 10.14 million (#1), A18-49: 3.5/11 (#1)

10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 9.78 million (#1), A18-49: 3.5/11 (#1)

In time period-premiere news, Shark Tank on ABC moved into the Friday 8 p.m. hour (in place of Superanny) with 4.83 million viewers (#3) and a fourth-place 1.2/ 4 among adults 18-49. Although ABC is reporting the network’s largest audience in the time period with regular programming since mid-November, don’t forget how low the bar is. Next on ABC was Primetime: What Would You Do? (Viewers: #3, 4.45 million; A18-49: #4, 1.3/ 4 at 9 p.m.), followed by granddaddy 20/20 at a slightly higher 5.04 million viewers (#3) and a 1.4/ 4 in the demo (#3). Needless to say, this is not a positive night for ABC.

NBC had an above-average Friday with its combination of Who Do You Think You Are? (Viewers: #2, 6.55 million; A18-49: #3, 1.3/ 5 at 8 p.m.) and another two-hour edition of Dateline (Viewers: #1, 8.11 million; A18-49: #2, 1.8/ 6 from 9-11 p.m.), which performed by half-hour as follows:

Dateline (NBC)

 9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 7.48 million (#1), A18-49: 1.6/ 5 (#2)

 9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 8.50 million (#1), A18-49: 1.8/ 6 (#2)

10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 7.87 million (#2), A18-49: 1.7/ 5 (#2)

10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 8.59 million (#2), A18-49: 1.9/ 6 (#2)

Elsewhere, Fox aired its line-up of Kitchen Nightmares (Viewers: #4, 4.07 million; A18-49: #2, 1.5/ 6) and just renewed Fringe (Viewers: #4, 3.88 million; A18-49: #3, 1.5/ 5). And The CW filled the evening with repeats of Smallville (Viewers: #5, 1.47 million; A18-49: #5, 0.6/ 2) and Supernatural (Viewers: #5, 1.12 million; A18-49: #5, 0.5/ 1).
