Second overall in the metered markets was Fox, followed by NBC, repeat riddled ABC and The CW. CBS’ Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains opened with a healthy 7.5 rating/12 share in the overnights at 8 p.m., followed by CSI (8.6/14) and The Mentalist (7.9/14) from 9-11 p.m. All three CBS shows finished first in each of the six half-hours. SPOILER ALERT: If you have not seen last night’s edition of Survivor yet, stop reading now. But J.T. giving competing Russell the immunity idol has to be the worst move in the history of this reality/competition. And the only thing missing when numbskull Colby filled Russell in on the plan was a laugh-track in the background. Now that the teams are merged and Parvati has the other idol, little Miss Flirtatious could now go the distance. Hopefully, the heroes will listen to what Sandra has to say. All I can say is fasten your seatbelts. Second-place Fox started out comfortably with underrated Bones at a 6.9/12 in the overnights at 8 p.m. (#2), but Fringe dipped to a third-place 4.6/ 8 at 9 p.m. Comparably, retention for Fringe out of the 8:30 p.m. portion of Bones (7.2/12) was a modest 64 percent. But the adult 18-49 retention will be stronger. NBC opened the with two encore telecasts of The Office (#4: avg. 3.2/ 5 from 8-9 p.m.), followed by the aforementioned SNL special at a 5.2/ 9 in the overnights from 9-11 p.m. While that may not sound like much, opposite repeats of Grey’s Anatomy (#4: 3.7/ 6) and Private Practice (#3: 2.7/ 5) on ABC, this could be enough for NBC to take the 9-11 p.m. time period among adults 18-49. Take a look at the half-hour breakdown: Saturday Night Live in the 2000s: Time and Again (NBC)9:00 p.m.: 5.0/ 8 (#2)9:30 p.m.: 5.5/ 9 (#2)10:00 p.m.: 5.4/ 9 (#2)10:30 p.m.: 5.1/ 9 (#2) Earlier in the evening on ABC, meanwhile, was older-skewing FlashForward at a third-place 4.2/ 7 at 8 p.m. Given the expected low performance in the demo, this is another “losing” performance. The CW closed the night with its already renewed combination of The Vampire Diaries (#5: 2.3/ 4) and Supernatural (#5: 1.8/ 3). But given the lackluster tune-in for the series-finale on Wednesday -- 5.41 million viewers and a 1.7 rating/ 5 share among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m., based on the live plus same day ratings (ranking third in the time period behind CBS’ CSI: NY and a repeat of NBC’s Law & Order: SVU), chances of that happening is very unlikely. -Carla Gugino Heads to Californication:Carla Gugino, whose last regularly scheduled TV stint was on HBO’s Entourage, has been cast as a defense attorney in the upcoming season of Showtime’s Californication.
