But the home of Glee, Fox, is poised for victory among adults 18-49 (despite the ongoing failure of freshman lead-out sitcoms Raising Hope and Running Wilde). Third overall in the overnights was Fox, followed by NBC and The CW. CBS’ NCIS stood well above the competition at 8 p.m. in the overnights, with a 12.6 rating/20 share, but Fox’s competing Glee (#2: 8.1/12) has a lock among adults 18-49. Next on CBS was spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles (#2: 10.5/16 at 9 p.m.), which trailed ABC’s competing Dancing with the Stars (#1: 12.0/18) by 12 percent, followed by The Good Wife at a dominant 9.3/16 at 10 p.m. Consider this another Tuesday of all “winners” on CBS. In week two news, ABC’s No Ordinary Family finished third in the overnights, with a 5.9/ 9 at 8 p.m. One week earlier, it kicked-off with a 7.4/11, so this was a loss of 20 percent. But compared to year-ago occupant Shark Tank (3.5/ 6 on Oct. 6, 2009), it was an increase of a hefty 69 percent for No Ordinary Family. Next on ABC was aforementioned Dancing with the Stars (#1: 12.0/18 – so long, Margaret Cho), followed by week three of Detroit 1-8-7 at a series-low (and distant second-place) 5.7/10 at 10 p.m. Comparably, retention for Detroit 1-8-7 out pf the 9:30 p.m. portion of Dancing with the Stars (12.4/19) was only 46 percent, and the crime-solver dipped by 19 percent at 10:30 p.m. (6.3/10 to 5.1/ 9). Take a look at the three-week overnight track: Detroit 1-8-7 (ABC) – Tues. 10 p.m.9/21/10: 7.1/129/28/10: 6.1/1010/05/10: 5.7/10 Needless to say, ABC could do better Tuesday at 10 p.m. out of blockbuster Dancing with the Stars. Over at Fox, the stellar 8.1/12 in the overnights for Glee at 8 p.m. was completely wasted on lead-out sitcoms Raising Hope (#4: 4.1/ 6) and Running Wilde (#4: 2.6/ 4) from 9-10 p.m., which were both series lows. Here are the three-week overnight tracks: Raising Hope (Fox) – Tues. 9 p.m. 9/21/10: 4.9/ 7 9/28/10: 4.8/ 710/05/10: 4.1/ 6 Running Wilde (Fox) – Tues. 9:30 p.m.9/21/10: 3.9/ 69/28/10: 3.3/ 510/05/10: 2.6/ 4 One year earlier, the fall 2009 edition of So You Think You Can Dance averaged a 3.3/ 5 on Oct. 6, 2009, but the lead-in support was only a 4.3/ 7 from Hell’s Kitchen. Retention for Raising Hope out of the 8:30 p.m. portion of Glee (8.2/12) was only 50 percent. Next was NBC care of inspirational The Biggest Loser at a below-average 4.6/ 7 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. One year earlier, it averaged a 4.9/ 8 on Oct. 6, 2009. Here is the half-hour breakdown: The Biggest Loser (NBC):8:00 p.m.: 4.5/ 7 (#4)8:30 p.m.: 4.5/ 7 (#4)9:00 p.m.: 4.7/ 7 (#3)9:30 p.m.: 4.8/ 7 (#3) Capping off the evening for NBC was family drama Parenthood at a distant last-place 3.8/ 6 at 10 p.m. One year earlier, failed occupant The Jay Leno Show averaged a 4.4/ 7 in the overnights on Oct. 6, 2009. The CW closed the night with its struggling combination of One Tree Hill (#5: 1.5/ 2), which should have called it quits by now, and sophomore Life Unexpected (#5: 1.2/ 2), which deserves better lead-in support. Source: Nielsen Media Research data (R = repeat) National Ratings in Prime-Time:Week of September 27, 2010 CBS dominated this second week of the 2010-11 season, with a first-place finish in households, total viewers, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54. Excluding a flat performance in households, minor year-to-year growth was the visible pattern for CBS. Fox was down, but still dominant among adults 18-34 with losses of 4 to 10 percent from the comparable year-ago week. Led by 20.93 million viewers for Chicago at the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football, NBC finished close to year-ago levels, with as high as a second-place finish in adults 25-54 (tied with ABC) and adults 18-34. ABC was down across the board, with a second-place finish in three of the five surveyed categories: households, total viewers and adults 25-54 (tied with NBC). Last place The CW was on par with year-ago levels. There were two series-premieres this week, ABC’s No Ordinary Family and NBC’s Law & Order: Los Angeles, and they were both adequately sampled (see New Series Scorecard below). And there were the second (and final) telecasts of the first two freshman casualties: Fox’s Lone Star and ABC’s My Generation. In season-premiere news, CBS’ relocated CSI: Miami is off to a positive start as the Sunday 10 p.m. occupant with 11.75 million viewers (#31 overall) and a 3.2 rating/8 share among adults 18-49 (tied for #26). Comparably, that was a notable increase from year-ago occupant Cold Case. CBS was also alive on struggling Saturday, with the Florida/Alabama College Football match-up at 8.59 million viewers (#41) and a 2.9/10 in the demo (#37t). For a Saturday, this is good news.
