CBS Takes the Wraps Off Fall Premiere Schedule

Four new series to bow the week of Sept. 24

The unofficial motto of CBS may as well be “If It Ain’t Broke, Don’t Fix It,” and that laissez-faire philosophy informs everything from the network’s programming slate to its fall premiere schedule.

While NBC will get a head start on the 2012-13 TV season by bowing the bulk of its new and returning series in early September, CBS is staying true to its roots. The Tiffany Network announced today it will unveil the lion’s share of its new series during broadcast’s traditional Premiere Week.

First up for CBS is the freshman comedy Partners, which premieres Monday, Sept. 24, in the 8:30 p.m. slot formerly occupied by 2 Broke Girls. Leading out of How I Met Your Mother, Partners will go head-to-head with two competition series (NBC’s The Voice, ABC’s Dancing With the Stars) and a pair of dramas (Fox’s Bones and The CW’s 90210).

The moody period piece Vegas arrives on Tuesday, Sept. 25, leading out of NCIS: Los Angeles. As CBS’ 10 p.m. entry, the cops-and-mobsters drama squares off against NBC’s Parenthood and ABC’s Private Practice, making it the hour’s only destination on the dial for fans of crime and punishment.

Jonny Lee Miller is the latest in a long line of actors to don the deerstalker in Elementary, a drama that transplants Sherlock Holmes to present-day New York. Lucy Liu co-stars as Dr. Joan Watson, a “sober companion” charged with keeping the recovering addict Holmes on the straight and narrow.

Elementary bows Thursday, Sept. 27 at 10 p.m., opposite ABC’s sophomore Beltway drama Scandal and the NBC newsmagazine Rock Center With Brian Williams.

The final CBS show to make an entrance this fall is the sassy, brassy legal drama Made in Jersey. Starring Janet Montgomery as a street-smart Italian-American woman who lands a job as a first-year associate at a white-shoe Manhattan law firm, Made in Jersey begins its opening arguments on Friday, Sept. 28.

Made in Jersey will challenge three other dramas, including Fox’s Fringe, NBC’s Grimm and The CW’s Nikita. Also returning to the 9 p.m. time slot is the ABC competition series Shark Tank.
