Go to the website, click on Ratings Box (the first category), then Last Night’s Results, and Monday, June 29, 2009. ---------- -Ratings Breakdown: CBS led this final June Monday in the overnights, followed by NBC, ABC, Fox and the CW. But, as expected, the Eye net’s relocated How I Met Your Mother may not be strong enough to anchor the evening. An encore telecast of the sitcom was third in the 8 p.m. half-hour, with a 3.5 rating/6 share. Next was a repeat of Rules of Engagement (#3: 3.7/ 6 at 8:30 p.m.), which returns in midseason, followed by encores of Two and a Half Men (#1: 6.1/10), recently moved The Big Bang Theory (#1: 5.2/ 8) and CSI: Miami (#1: 5.6/10) from 9-11 p.m. While The Big Bang Theory will find more viewers out of established Two and a Half Men next season, it was fine where it was anchoring Monday. Why “fix” something if it is not broken? NBC’s overused Law & Order franchise populated the 8-10 p.m. block, with a repeat of the parent series (#2: 3.9/ 7) at 8 p.m. and Law & Order: Criminal Intent (#3: 4.2/ 7) at 9 p.m. These episodes of Criminal Intent, of course, originally aired on USA. Capping off the evening on NBC was more coverage of Michael Jackson on Dateline at a second-place 5.1/ 9 at 10 p.m. Still hard to believe, isn’t it? ABC had a typical early summer Monday with its combination of a two-hour installment of The Bachelorette (4.5/ 8), which built in every half-hour, and uneventful Here Come the Newlyweds (#3: 2.9/ 5 at 10 p.m.). There was little interest, however, with an overall fourth-place 3.1/ 5 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. Last, and very least, were repeats of the CW’s Gossip Girl (0.7/ 1) and One Tree Hill (0.5/ 1), which flip time period next season. But based on fast affiliate data for Friday, June 26, ABC’s competing Nightline had the most number of viewers for the third night in a row. Nightline (which focused on Michael Jackson) averaged 4.19 million viewers compared to 3.72 million for NBC’s The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and 3.09 million for CBS’ The Late Show with David Letterman. -Princess Protection Program Scores on Disney Channel:Princess Protection Program, Disney Channel’s latest original movie, debuted on Friday, June 26 as the top-rated telecast in all of television this year to-date among kids 6-11 (3.1 million) and tweens 9-14 (3.2 million). It was also cable’s No. 1 scripted telecast in total viewers (8.5 million), debuting as Disney’s Channel’s third most-watched original movie of all time (behind High School Musical 2 and Camp Rock). -Final Friday Nationals:Princess Protection Program may have soared on Disney Channel, but the five broadcast networks were down in the dumps on this lackluster final Friday in June. Secluded by a 20-foot wall, the families will compete in a series of games for the grand prize of $250,000. The following week, highlights from Grammy winning artist Neil Diamond’s recent concert series at Madison Square Garden in New York will be showcased in one-hour special, Neil Diamond – Hot August Night: NYC on Friday, August 14 at 8 p.m. ET. -My Super Sweet 16 Heads to The Style Network:Cable net Style has a new acquisition: repeats of select episodes of MTV hit My Super Sweet 16. An eight-episode marathon of the non-scripted half-hour is scheduled on Friday, July 3 beginning at 5 p.m. ET. -Discovery Channel Remembers Billy Mays:Discovery Channel will honor infomercial guru Billy Mays with a marathon of episodes of Pitchmen from 11 a.m. ET to 10 p.m. ET on Wednesday, July 1. In addition, a special tribute show is being planned. No decision has been made, meanwhile, on Pitchmen returning for a second season. -SVU Stars Remain Intact:After months of rumors that Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni may be replaced on NBC’s Law & Order: SVU, both stars have signed new deals to remain with the long running procedural drama for its upcoming 11th season. The two are estimated to be earning in the vicinity of $400,000 per episode. SVU, in addition, has signed former Chicago Hope star Christine Lahti as the assistant district attorney for the first four episodes this fall. -Speaking of Hefty Salaries:According to the New York Post, outspoken Simon Cowell is being offered in the vicinity of $144 million per year to remain as one of the three judges on Fox’s American Idol. Comparably, that is about four times the amount he is earning now. -More Sad News:Fred Travalena, the master impressionist, passed away on Sunday of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He was 66. Fondly known as the “Man of a Thousand Faces” and “Mr. Everybody,” Travalena morphed from singer to impressionist, with regular appearances on The Tonight Show during the Johnny Carson era, headline performances in Las Vegas, Reno and Atlantic City, and a repertoire of an estimated 360 celebrity, political and cartoon character voices.
