KYW, CBS Television’s owned-and-operated TV station in Philadelphia is the third big-market station this week to announce it would start its early morning newscast a half-hour earlier.

Beginning Monday, Sept. 6, Eyewitness News This Morning will air 4:30 a.m. on KYW and then continue from 7 to 9 a.m. on WPSG-TV, the company’s CW affiliate in the market.

Newscasts across the country have been airing earlier and earlier, a far cry from Feb. 1981 when KYW launched Philadelphia’s first early morning newscast at 6:30 a.m.

In Philly, KYW is the second station to go to a 4:30 start, following WTXF, Fox Television’s owned and operated station, which launched its 4:30 a.m.
