But the home of Glee, Fox, is poised for overall victory among adults 18-49. Third in the overnights was Fox, followed by ABC and The CW. Minus NCIS in the competitive mix, Fox’s Glee won the 8 p.m. hour, with an 8.2 rating/13 share in the overnights. Second was NBC’s annual Christmas in Rockefeller Center (7.6/12), followed by perennial CBS holiday favorite Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (6.3/10), repeats of ABC’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas (4.3/ 7) and Shrek the Halls (3.9/ 6), and One Tree Hill on The CW (1.5/ 2). Comparably, Christmas in Rockefeller Center built by 27 percent from one year earlier (6.0/10 on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009). Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer averaged a 5.8/ 9 on that same evening, so both holiday specials were on the plus side. Keep in mind, however, that Rudolph is expected to have the advantage among adults 18-49 over the older-skewing Rockefeller Center extravaganza. At 9 p.m., a repeat of CBS’ NCIS reigned supreme with a 9.7/15 in the overnights. Next was the first half of NBC’s The Biggest Loser (5.4/ 8), followed by the time period-premiere of No Ordinary Family on ABC at a series-low (and third-place) 4.0/ 6. Take a look at the nine-week overnight track: No Ordinary Family (ABC) 9/28/10: 7.4/11 – Tues. 8 p.m. 10/05/10: 5.9/ 9 – Tues. 8 p.m. 10/12/10: 5.3/ 8 – Tues. 8 p.m. 10/19/10: 5.3/ 8 – Tues. 8 p.m. 10/26/10: 5.2/ 8 – Tues. 8 p.m. 11/09/10: 5.2/ 8 – Tues. 8 p.m. 11/16/10: 4.8/ 7 – Tues. 8 p.m. 11/23/10: 4.9/ 8 – Tues. 8 p.m.11/30/10: 4.0/ 6 – Tues. 9 p.m. At this point, it is time to include No Ordinary Family as a “loser.” Capping off the 9 p.m. hour were Fox sitcoms Raising Hope (#3t: 4.1/ 6), which held only 48 percent of the 8:30 p.m. portion of Glee (8.5/13) and canceled Running Wilde (#4: 2.4/ 4), and canceled Life Unexpected on The CW (#5: 1.3/ 2). At 10 p.m., annual CBS special Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show won the hour, with a 6.0/10 in the overnights. Comparably, that was up by seven percent from one year earlier (5.6/ 9 on Dec. 1, 2009), but retention out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of the NCIS encore (9.9/15) was lacking at 61 percent. Second was ABC’s Detroit 1-8-7 (5.3/ 9), which will be replaced by long-delayed crime solver Body of Proof in late March (see TV Tidbits below), followed by the 10-11 p.m. portion of NBC’s The Biggest Loser (5.2/ 9). Overall, this later version of The Biggest Loser was above-average at a 5.2/ 8 in the overnights from 9-11 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown: The Biggest Loser (NBC) 9:00 p.m.: 5.5/ 8 (#2) 9:30 p.m.: 5.2/ 8 (#2)10:00 p.m.: 5.1/ 8 (#3)10:30 p.m.: 5.2/ 9 (#2) Source: Nielsen Media Research data (R = repeat) National Ratings in Prime-Time:Week of November 22, 2010 CBS ranked first in households, total viewers and adults 25-54 during Thanksgiving week, its ninth win in 10 weeks this season among viewers. Fox won the week in adults 18-49 and adults 18-34 at levels close to one year earlier. Keep in mind that this week included the final three days of the November sweeps and a considerable percentage of repeats. ABC finished second overall in total viewers and adults 18-49, while tying CBS for first among adults 25-54 and extending its winning streak in women 18-49 and women 25-54 to four consecutive weeks. NBC remained out of the competitive loop, with as low as a fourth-place finish in households and total viewers, while last-place The CW dipped by as much as 20 percent year-to-year in adults 18-49 and adults 18-34. In a week populated with several original holiday specials (three of which were buried on Thanksgiving), here is how they fared (in order of total viewers): Primetime: Celebrity Plastic Surgery Gone Too Far? Based on these six markets in the first two days, plus CBS affiliate WDJT in Milwaukee, Drescher is averaging a 0.8 rating/2 share in the overnights, which is equal to the lead-in average and (in rating) to the year-ago time period (0.8/ 3). -Above Average Dexter:Showtime’s Dexter rose to its second highest ratings ever on Sunday, Nov. 28, with 2.54 million viewers. Comparably, that was up by 20 percent from one week earlier. -Live Plus 7 Day Ratings – Season to-Date Update:Eight weeks of Live Plus 7 Day Ratings, which include DVR usage, have been released and what follows are the season to-date results (through Nov. 14, 2010). Based on additional tune-in, CBS continues to hold five of the top 10, 10 of the top 20, and 15 of the top 30 spots. CBS’ Hawaii Five-O remains the most played-back program to-date, with an additional 3.17 million added viewers. Leading based on percent increase are NBC’s Parenthood (+27.8 percent), Fox’s Fringe (+25.9 percent), The CW’s Gossip Girl (+23.9 percent), Fox’s Lie to Me (+23.7 percent) and NBC’s The Event (+22.3 percent). As always, chances of a larger percent increase are greater if the overall audience is smaller. Lights Out tells the story of an aging former heavyweight boxing champion (Holt McCallany) who struggles to find his identity and support his wife and three daughters after retiring from the ring. Later that month, animated sitcom Archer opens season two on Thursday, January 27 at 10 p.m. ET.
