Alternative TV Systems on the Rise

More than a third of subscription TV customers, or 33.6 percent, pay for TV delivery from services other than wired cable. That’s an all time-high, according to a Television Bureau of Advertising analysis of Nielsen data for July 2010.

Alternative delivery systems, of which satellite TV is the largest component, are now present in 30.5 percent of all TV households, up from 28.6 percent a year ago. The growth has come at the expense of wired cable penetration, which declined to 61.1
