$85 Mil. Discover Media in Play

NEW YORK Discover Financial has put its media buying and planning account in review, according to sources.

The client spent an estimated $85 million on ads in 2007.

Publicis Groupe’s Starcom is the incumbent, but is not defending because of a conflict with its $250 million Bank of America account, per sources. Starcom won BofA in March after a review.

Sources said Aegis Group’s Carat and the creative incumbent, IPG’s The Martin Agency, are contending for the media business. The creative is not in review. Martin won that assignment in April 2006.

The agencies either could not immediately be reached or referred calls to the client. The client could not be reached for comment.

The review is being handled by Jones Lundin Beals in Chicago.
