Put the Screen Down and Call Your Mother (After You Watch This Ad)

Another emotional roller coaster from Thai Life and Ogilvy

You’re not fooling anyone—there’s nothing in your eye.

What there is, though, is another Thai Life Insurance spot. Over the past several years, the Bangkok-based insurance giant has partnered with Ogilvy to produce a tearjerking run of thoughtful, vignette-style ads, each garnering millions of views.

That streak continues with their latest spot, “Mother Knows Best.” The highlight of this commercial is the simple and heartfelt dialogue between a single mother and her technology-obsessed 12-year-old son. With the world at his fingertips, the boy begins to resent his out-of-touch mother… until he’s reminded just how in touch she is with the things that really matter in life.

Thai Life Insurance’s commercials always use emotional storytelling to support the brand’s core belief of the value of life and love. This time around, over a short conversation and a simple meal, “Mother Knows Best” takes on the insurer’s most modern subject yet: how technology is creating gaps and disrupting love in even the most important of relationships.

Watch the video above. And then call your mother, would you?
