Using data from Facebook analytics company Socialbakers, The Guardian reported that the social network shed 600,000 unique monthly users in December, and TechCrunch pointed out that according to updated data from Socialbakers, that figure is now more than 946,000.

However, Facebook told TechCrunch Socialbakers gathers its statistics using the social network’s advertising tool, which does not take all usage into account, saying in an email:

From time to time, we see stories about Facebook losing users in some regions.
