Turkey to Facebook: Block Pages that Insult Prophet Mohammad

A court in Turkey ordered Facebook to block several pages that it deemed insulting to the Prophet Mohammad, threatening to block access to the social network if it does not comply

TurkeyFlag650A court in Turkey ordered Facebook to block several pages that it deemed insulting to the Prophet Mohammad, threatening to block access to the social network if it does not comply, Reuters reported.

According to Reuters, via state broadcaster TRT, the court order followed a request by a prosecutor.

Reuters pointed out that Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and his administration have promoted an Islamist agenda, adding that prosecutors in the country launched an inquiry into a newspaper that reprinted parts of French satirical weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo, the target of a terrorist attack earlier this month related to its portrayal of Mohammad.
