Think Outside the Box: Instagram Lets You Go Landscape, Portrait

When uploading a photo to Instagram that doesn't fit the box, tap the format icon to adjust the orientation to portrait or landscape.

Remember all those times you got a great shot of you and your friends, prepped to upload with the hashtag #SquadGoals … then had to crop some people out because Instagram only allows square uploads? Those days are gone.

Instagram announced Thursday support for landscape and portrait photos, moving beyond the square. The company detailed the move in a blog post:

Square format has been and always will be part of who we are. That said, the visual story you’re trying to tell should always come first, and we want to make it simple and fun for you to share moments just the way you want to.
