Facebook has been trying to pin down the best way to handle notifications for months and months, and its latest attempt to help users control incoming notifications is the addition of an instant option to turn them off for specific applications, groups, events, or posts.

TechCrunch reported on the modifications to the drop-down menu for notifications, noting that incoming ones from apps include a yes/no option, asking users if they want to continue receiving notifications from those apps, and event-related notifications are followed by a turn off/keep on field.

A Facebook spokesperson told TechCrunch:

The intent behind the change is to modernize the UI (user interface) and add some features that will help users more easily consume and curate their notifications.
