More than 8.5 million Facebook users in Nepal used the social network’s Safety Check feature to alert family and friends that they were safe after April’s earthquakes.

More than 8.5 million Facebook users in Nepal used the social network’s Safety Check feature to alert family and friends that they were safe after April’s earthquakes.

The newly formed Facebook Social Good team said those Safety Check notifications were seen by more than 150 million users worldwide.

More than 770,000 Facebook users from over 175 countries also took advantage of the social network’s donate now button to contribute more than $15 million to International Medical Corps, which ended up helping some 210,000 people in Nepal.
