Mobile App Roundup: SXSW 2015 Edition

With the 2015 SXSW Interactive Festival in the books, here’s a look at a few of the apps launched or revealed during the show. Zoom Social (Free on iOS) - From Locus Social, Zoom Social (pictured at top) allows users to discover their local social media trends on a map-based view. As users zoom in and out on their location map, they'll see different topics emerge in real-time, and can tap on each topic to see why it's trending, viewing real tweets from Twitter. By signing in with their own Twitter account, users can interact with these local trends in real-time, retweeting, favoriting, replying to or sharing the tweets around them. Locus Social has plans to integrate content from Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest in the future. Graphiti (Free on iOS) - This graffiti-inspired, social photo-editing app from LiveRelay allows users to “bomb” their own photos, or live websites, with tools like spray paint, stencils, stickers and markers, before sharing their creations with their friends. Friends can post fist bumps (likes) on their friends’ content, with photos being privately shared to only those users chosen by the original creator. Graphiti is coming soon to Android. Fradio (Free on iOS, Android) - This user-powered radio app from Australian music streaming service, Guvera, allows users to broadcast their own radio show to friends and the community, including support for live voice-overs, so broadcasters can, in effect, become a radio DJ. Users can take calls from listeners while their station is live, while listeners can browse stations currently broadcasting near them. While the base app is free, users can purchase a premium subscription to have more control over the songs their station plays, searching and selecting the exact tracks they wish to broadcast. Djed (Coming soon to iOS, Android) - Pronounced “Jed,” Djed is a product designed for families, with a mobile and desktop application used for cataloging and sharing all of a family’s vital information, from health and financial information to school projects, sporting events, trips and more. It will support multiple features, including a calendar, contact list, documents, notes, lists, photos, assets and more. The app is built around the idea of a “Tribe,” or a private network of family and close friends, who can share this information in their own private network. The platform announced its preview launch as a web app during SXSW, and will come to iOS first, before launching on Android later this year.
