Facebook and its Oculus VR virtual-reality unit will take a major hit in August when Mary Lou Jepsen, the social network’s executive director of engineering and leader of Oculus’ display group, leaves the company.

Jepsen announced at the Anita Borg Women of Vision Awards event in Santa Clara, Calif., last Thursday that she will focus on the use of magnetic resonance imaging technology via wearable consumer devices to help treat and cure diseases, CNET reported.

She said during her keynote speech, according to USA Today and CNET:

I have decided to leave Facebook and Oculus to work on curing diseases using some new imaging technologies I’ve been incubating for a while.
