FacialNetwork Gets Cease-and-Desist Letter from Facebook for NameTag Facial-Recognition Product

FacialNetwork CEO Kevin Alan Tussy said in a press release that shortly after his company released the second demonstration video for its NameTag facial-recognition search engine, he received a cease-and-desist letter from Facebook, which had already taken away FacialNetwork’s access to Facebook Login.

NameTag650FacialNetwork CEO Kevin Alan Tussy said in a press release that shortly after his company released the second demonstration video for its NameTag facial-recognition search engine, he received a cease-and-desist letter from Facebook, which had already taken away FacialNetwork’s access to Facebook Login.

Tussy did not reveal the contents of the cease-and-desist letter from Facebook, nor did he specify why the social network was targeting NameTag, only saying that Facebook claimed that NameTag violates its terms of use. He wrote in the release:

The fact that this letter comes right after we announced a key partnership, the hiring of a new rock-star chief operating officer and a major announcement of our entire suite of applications makes me think the timing of this cease-and-desist letter is more than just a coincidence.

We haven’t violated Facebook’s terms of use.
