Amazon Testing Drones That Can Deliver Packages in 30 Minutes

In an anticipated 60 Minutes interview Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos unveiled plans to bring drone deliveries to the online megastore. Called Amazon Prime Air, the 30 minute delivery service would use unmanned aerial vehicles as early as 2015.

Currently, the FAA prohibits commercial drones, but rules and regulations for UAVs, both commercial and personal, are expected to arrive within the next few years. In the meantime, Amazon is readying its fleet of drone delivery service to reduce delivery’s average labor and time.

Bezos noted that since drones are capable of carrying loads up to five pounds, they can 86% of Amazon’s products.
