YouTube chief product officer Neal Mohan shared details Thursday on the Google-owned video site’s product plans for the remainder of 2022.
He started with YouTube Shorts, the company’s take on other short video formats such as TikTok and Instagram Reels.
Mohan said YouTube will add new editing tools and video effects, as well as enabling people to reply to individual comments by creating YouTube Shorts—similar to the Reels Visual Replies feature rolled out by Instagram last December.
In the coming months, the company plans to explore new ways for creators to monetize YouTube Shorts, such as by building branded content through BrandConnect, integrating fan funding features such as Super Chat and enabling viewers to shop directly via YouTube Shorts.
