Business directory and crowdsourced review forum Yelp commissioned a survey of 1,500 people by Kelton to determine what makes reviews trustworthy to them.

Yelp said seven out of 10 respondents who read reviews indicated that it was rare for them to go to a new business without checking out its reviews first, while three out of four believe they are reading more online reviews now than they ever did in the past.

The company said in a blog post Tuesday, “One of the trust and safety policies that differentiates Yelp from other platforms is that we do not allow businesses to ask for reviews.
