Only 0.01% of images posted to Twitter include alt text, and only a few of the top 50 accounts on the social platform have ever used alt text. Microsoft Edge is on a mission to change that.
The Microsoft web browser teamed up with VMLY&R on Twitter campaign “Alt Text Adds More,” in which authors, celebrities, influencers and musicians will tweet in support of the use of alt text.
The copy in their tweets will not provide any context for the images, meaning that Twitter users must click on the platform’s new ALT button to see the full image description, as well as additional content from the tweet author.
Participants in the campaign include Molly Burke, Justine Ezarik, Haben Girma, Randy Jackson, Micah Johnson, Dhani Jones, Ashley Kavanagh, Lachi, Marlee Matlin, Overtime, Steve Salor, Marcus Samuelsson, Eric Stonestreet, Tianna Tashelle, Terrell & Jarius, Andy To and Danelle Umstead.
