Disney, Google, Snap Inc. and Verizon teamed up on a series of next-generation augmented reality experiences for Snapchat inspired by Marvel’s The Avengers.

The lenses will be exclusive to Google Pixel users at first, and they automatically adapt to the environment, enabling Snapchatters to create cinema-quality effects for Snaps and Stories featuring the superpowers of The Avengers.

The first lens, featuring Doctor Strange, debuted Thursday as a 4G and 5G experience, and it will be followed by new drops every seven days:

  • Nov. 4, Ant-Man and the Wasp, 4G only
  • Nov. 11, Thor, 4G and 5G Verizon exclusive
  • Nov. 18, Gamora, 4G only
  • Nov. 25, Captain Marvel, 4G and 5G Verizon exclusive

All 4G lenses will be extended to the entire Snapchat community Nov. 25, regardless of carrier or device, and the 5G lenses will remain exclusive to Verizon customers but be available on any 5G-enabled device with Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband, which is offered in parts of select cities across the U.S.

Google rolled out the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro handsets Thursday, and they will support an exclusive feature set to debut later in the year, Quick Tap to Snap, which enables people to tap the back of their devices to open the Snapchat camera directly on the lock screen, so that Snapchatters can capture moments before it is too late.

Snap and Verizon have an existing 5G innovation partnership, which has yielded three 5G-powered AR landmarker lenses, in Los Angeles, New York and Tampa, Fla.
