Magnite Closes Billion-Dollar SpotX Deal

Acquisition follows U.S. government approval

Magnite’s purchase of SpotX has gotten the green light from the U.S. Department of Justice, permitting a move that will establish what Magnite calls the largest independent connected TV and video advertising platform in the industry.

The deal was first announced in February when pan-European broadcaster RTL Group agreed to sell SpotX to Magnite for $1.17 billion. Magnite is the product of a 2020 merger between Rubicon Project and Telaria.

“When we did the Rubicon and Telaria merger and rebranded as Magnite, we always felt that that was a brand that would be able to incorporate more acquisitions,” Magnite CEO Michael Barrett told Adweek.
