Google Analytics in Hot Water by French Privacy Watchdog Over US Data Spying Concern

French website operators have a month to comply with GDPR, or give up Google’s tool entirely

Today, the French data watchdog ruled data transfer by Google Analytics, the web analytics service by Google that tracks and reports website traffic, as illegal and unsafe. The regulators may ban Google Analytics altogether, due to concerns over U.S. surveillance on EU citizens.

As a verdict, Commission Nationale de l’informatique et des libertés (CNIL) has ordered website managers to comply with the GDPR and cease using Google Analytics if necessary, or use tools that do not involve a transfer of data outside the EU.
