YouTube Is Making It Easier for Users to ‘Go Live’

Encoders, additional software no longer needed on desktop

YouTube users on desktop can now livestream without dealing with encoders or additional software, and the Google-owned video site is working on adding that capability to specific mobile devices “in the coming months.”

Live video product manager Vadim Lavrusik, former product manager for Facebook Live, said in a blog post that desktop users can start the livestreaming process here or click on “Go live” in their headers.

The new capability is currently available for Google Chrome, and Lavrusik said more browsers will be added soon.

On the mobile side, Lavrusik said that “in the coming months,” select devices from Asus, LG, Motorola, Nokia and Samsung will offer the capability for users to launch livestreams directly via their camera applications.
