At the peak of their collaboration, there were about 1,000 McDonald’s in-store restaurants within Walmarts around the U.S., but that number was gradually reduced to roughly 500 as of the beginning of 2020, according to a recent report in The Wall Street Journal.

McDonald’s first announced it would accelerate restaurant closings in July 2020. Over half of the 200 locations the burger chain planned to shutter last year were located inside Walmart stores, it said at the time.
