Virtual Influencers Lead to Virtual Inauthenticity

Opinion: There are major differences between people and artificially created personalities

A recent new trend that’s popped up is the emergence of virtual influencers, particularly for those active in social media and the influencer marketing space.

Virtual influencers are computer-generated-imagery-created influencers who are designed to portray ideal lifestyle—with Vogue dubbing one of the first virtual influencers, @lilmiquela, as the “Fictional It Girl.”

@lilmiquela has amassed more than 1.1 million followers on Instagram.
