78% of Twitter Users are International

225 million Twitter MAUs are international, compared to 63 million in the U.S.

Twitter released its latest earnings report last week, revealing that the platform added just four million new monthly active users (MAUs) in the fourth quarter of 2014, which now totals 288 million accounts.

Moreover, some 78 percent of those users are based outside of the United States. And all of that recent growth has come from international territories.

225 million Twitter MAUs are international, compared to 63 million in the U.S.

This isn’t a new phenomenon – even as far back as Q1 2010, two-thirds of Twitter users were logging on internationally.
