The National Football League was a red-hot Hot Topic on Facebook in January, while Instagrammers focused a bit more on the Golden Globe Awards, according to Facebook IQ.

The social network’s research arm found that Facebook users chatted about Patrick Mahomes, the New Orleans Saints, Tom Brady and the National Basketball Association’s Golden State Warriors last month.

Brady, the Saints and the Los Angeles Rams were also sports Hot Topics on Instagram.

Meanwhile, the Golden Globes and Lady Gaga dominated entertainment chatter on both social networks, but led Instagram.

Martin Luther King Jr. and Marie Kondo were the most-talked-about people on both Facebook and Instagram in January.

Febreze and Wayfair led brand conversation on Facebook last month, while Instagrammers talked up TurboTax.

For holidays and events, Black History Month was strong on both platforms. Facebook users also discussed the Women’s March, while Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Paris Fashion Week lit up Instagram.

Finally, in the food and drink category, Facebook users followed up their chicken salad with chocolate cake, while Stella Artois was the beverage of choice for Instagrammers.

Facebook IQ measured subjects that drove disproportionately high volumes of discussion on both social platforms, marking the latest in a Facebook-Adweek Hot Topics monthly series that began in 2015.
