Instagram rolled out video chat for Instagram Direct in June, enabling up to four people at a time to use the feature. That limit was quietly expanded to six people this week.
Video chat for Instagram Direct was initially announced at Facebook’s F8 annual developer conference in May.
iOS and Android users can start video chats in Direct, with one person or a group of people, by swiping into their Direct inboxes, opening message threads and tapping the new camera icon in the right corner.
Friends’ phones will ring when they are invited into a video chat, and video chats can be minimized so that users can perform other tasks on Instagram.
