Seesmic Eyes Life Beyond Twitter, Acquires Ping.fm

Seeking to expand beyond Twitter desktop and mobile clients and taking aim at other social networks, Seesmic acquired Ping.fm, which allows users to post to 50 social networks via a single status update, Mashable reported.

Ping.fm co-founders Adam Duffy and Sean McCullough were added to Seesmic’s management team and became shareholders in the company, according to Mashable.

Seesmic posted on its blog:

Ping.fm has more than 500,000 active users who post daily from any device just by sending an email, a text message or chat—simple tools that existed since the early stages of the Internet and that are available on all connected devices.
