Report: Number of Jailed Journalists at All-Time High

Scary times.

According to The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) annual report on press freedom, the number of imprisoned journalists is now at an all-time high. Unfortunately, this news comes at a time when we desperately need as many smart, hard-working journalists as possible.

As of Dec. 1, there were a total of 259 journalists in jail. That’s the most since CPJ began tracking the stat 26 years ago. There were 199 imprisoned journalists last year. The previous record—232 jailed members of the press—was set in 2012.
