Reddit ramped up its efforts to prevent self-harm and suicide, entering a partnership with mental health text line Crisis Text Line.
Users who are flagged as struggling with self-harm or suicide will receive an immediate private message containing resources, as well as a recommendation that they text CHAT to 741741 in order to be connected with a crisis counselor. Crisis Text Line is also available to Reddit users who report that someone is experiencing issues.
Once contacted, crisis counselors respond via a secure online platform, and conversations can last as long as necessary until the problem is resolved.
Crisis Text Line co-founder and chief data scientist Bob Filbin said in a Reddit blog post, “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Reddit, where redditors can feel safe and supported by their community, 24/7.
