Pinterest Unveils Shop the Look Ads, Retooled Business Profiles

Catalogs, shopping ads will begin rolling out to select partners in France, Germany, Spain, Italy

Pinterest continues to add shopping options to its platform Pinterest

Pinterest introduced several updates Monday with the aim of promoting shopping via its platform: Shop the Look ads in a new collections format for its mobile applications, a revamped business profile and the expansion of catalogs and shopping ads to more countries.

The new Shop the Look ads enable retailers to feature multiple products in a single ad, as they can tag up to 25 items in an image. Shoppers will see preview showcases of four times, and they can click through to see more, as well as to check out via the retailer’s site.

Pinterest said the new Shop the Look ads will roll out in the U.S. over the coming months, adding that Shop the Look as an organic shopping feature is currently available to select partners in international markets including the U.K., Brazil, Germany, France and Japan.

The new, dynamic business profile brings brands’ Pins and products front-and-center, and a dedicated Shop tab allows users to shop directly within those profiles and drives them to retailers’ sites.

Profile covers can also be customized with videos or images, and an updated messaging feature enables brands to provide quick customer support and feedback.

Catalogs and shopping ads will begin rolling out to select partners in France, Germany, Spain and Italy. Catalogs enable brans to upload their entire catalog to Pinterest and turn those products into shoppable Product Pins. Shopping ads are coming to those countries, as well.

Finally, as revealed last week, when Pinners use the Lens visual search tool within a fashion or home Pin to zero in on a specific product or object, they will see shoppable Product Pins with current prices and direct links to check out on the seller’s site, as well as visually similar ideas.

Pinterest said in a blog post, “As people around the world use Pinterest for shopping inspiration, we’ll continue making updates to help Pinners discover the right Pin to shop at the right time, while giving businesses the tools to reach people while they’re in a planning mindset.” David Cohen is editor of Adweek's Social Pro Daily.
