NPR snags The Washington Post’s Terence Samuel to serve as deputy managing editor, announced NPR executive editor Edith Chapin in a note to staff today. Samuel has been at the Post since 2011, when he joined from National Journal to serve as deputy national political editor. Most recently, he has been senior national correspondent.
When Samuel arrives May 8, he will spend “a few weeks getting to know NPR and shadowing [deputy managing editor] Gerry Holmes through various aspects of the job,” according to Chapin, after which “Terry will take the lead in running the morning editorial meeting and focusing on making sure we are quick and sharp on the day’s news on all platforms and in shaping our lines of coverage beyond the immediate needs.”
