Reports of its birth were greatly exaggerated.
Despite widespread reports that Google Assistant’s Multiple Actions feature for three or more actions was live based on a tweet from Google’s hardware account, @MadeByGoogle, the functionality is not, in fact, available.
The June 11 tweet reportedly said, “You’re not the only one who can multitask. Now Google Home can perform up to three queries at a time, so you can get more done.” By June 12, the tweet had been deleted.
A source with knowledge of the situation said the tweet was in error and that Multiple Actions is not live yet for three or more actions.
Users can, however, ask Google Assistant to do two things, like turn on the TV and a popcorn maker, as well as ask two-part questions like, “What’s the weather like in New York and in Austin?”
Google announced that functionality in a blog post in May, when it was perhaps overshadowed by news that users would soon be able to get John Legend’s voice for their Google Assistants.
Google has said three or more Multiple Actions will enable more natural conversation, with users asking about many things at once. The blog post said Multiple Actions started to roll out in May, but it was not immediately clear where it’s available so far.
