Juneteenth Is Now an Official US Company Holiday at Twitter and Square

Jack Dorsey, who leads both companies, tweeted the news about June 19

Juneteenth (June 19) is now an official company holiday in the U.S. at Twitter and Square, the two companies run by Jack Dorsey.

The holiday—also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day and Cel-Liberation Day—marks the day in 1865 when the Emancipation Proclamation was read to enslaved African Americans in Texas, the last ones to be freed.

Dorsey shared the news in a tweet, saying in a follow-up tweet, “Countries and regions around the world have their own days to celebrate emancipation, and we will do the work to make those dates company holidays everywhere we are present.”
