Internet.org App Marks One-Year Anniversary
Internet.org marked the anniversary of the launch of its application in its first country, Zambia, with a progress update and a call for more operator partners.
Internet.org marked the anniversary of the launch of its application in its first country, Zambia, with a progress update and a call for more operator partners.
The group was formed in August 2013 by Facebook, Ericsson, MediaTek, Nokia, Opera, Qualcomm and Samsung to connect people and parts of the world without Internet access.
Internet.org said in a post that health services have been accessed more than 1 million times by users of the free app, adding that its partner mobile networks are adding new users by an average of more than 50 percent quicker after launching the app, and that more than one-half of users who access the app’s free services end up paying for data and accessing the Internet within 30 days.
The group added that its app is now available to more than 1 billion people, saying in its post:
