Instagram Begins Testing the Ability to Send Direct Messages on the Web

The feature is being trialed with 'a small percentage' of users

Instagram has begun testing the ability for users to send Direct messages when using Instagram on the web.

Users who have access to this feature will see a paper airplane icon alongside the Explore, notification and profile icons that are positioned near the top-right corner of the Instagram website.

This feature will allow users to access their entire Instagram Direct inbox, reply to messages and create new one-on-one and group conversations via the website. This Direct icon itself will show users the total number of unread messages they have in their inbox.

Users with this feature will be able to reply to Stories using Direct on the web, as well as send images (such as ones copied to their clipboard) through DMs.
