How Brands Got In On the #StraightOutta Meme You Saw All Over Social Media

Some surprising brands (and even the Power Rangers) gained huge success by joining the #StraightOutta craze.

Leading up to the release of the NWA biopic, Straight Outta Compton, Dr. Dre and the team behind the film came up with a fantastic social marketing tactic: opening up the “Straight Outta…” to anyone.

Several brands and public figures have posted their own #StraightOutta memes, ranging from authentic to comical. According to SocialTimes’ parent publication, Adweek, as of Aug. 11, more than 150,000 Instagram posts have been hashtagged #StraightOutta. Sister site The Hollywood Reporter noted last week that at the trend’s peak, there were an average of 15,000 #Straightoutta tweets and retweets per minute.

Unmetric tracked the top brands who capitalized on the #StraightOutta meme, according to its Engagement Score value.

Lux Narayan, CEO of Unmetric, described the social conversation around the film:

The ‘Straight Outta’ buzz is a powerful example of how content can become so viral and mainstream it transcends every brand and consumer.
