HeroCraft's Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf Launches on iOS

HeroCraft has today announced the launch of its turn-based, squad-based strategy title, Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf, on iOS devices. The free-to-play game takes players through a single-player campaign that sees them fighting the World Bearers, using cards and action points to complete actions within each combat scenario. In Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf, players can select their main hero for each of the game’s missions (Grey Hunter, Wolf Scout or Wolf Guard), in order to employ the best tactics and strategy possible. The game offers multiple classes and 14 unlockable perks for each class. These range from perks that offer more action points when certain stipulations are met, to increased damage stats for nearby squad members, and so on. Players can swap out their active perks between missions to better fit their play style. During gameplay, players start each turn (typically) with two action points, and spend a single point each time they play a card. When moving around the game world, players tap on cells to confirm their movement, and can choose their character’s orientation in the world to determine the direction they’ll face, and therefore attack, later on.While the player’s deck may contain movement-specific cards, most cards can be used for movement, rather than attacking. That is, a card like a sword can be used to attack, or sacrificed in order to move around the playing field. Different weapons have different attack areas or ranges. Most traditional guns can be fired toward a large number of squares in front of the player, for instance, while a melee weapon (say, a sword) may only be used when players are one square away from the enemy. Area of effect weapons also exist, including flamethrowers and grenades, and these can attack both friends, as well as foes in the damage zone. Advanced tactics are available while playing, and deal with stats like effort points. Each card played adds to the character’s earned efforts points. The more points the have, the later they’ll receive their turn in the next round. So, players may be willing to sacrifice some action points for the sake of ending a turn with less effort points than their opponent(s), in order to receive their next turn before them in the next round. In addition, some characters may have access to shield cards for a temporary increase in defense, equip cards that let the player equip new weapons with limited ammunition, and more.As players take damage in each level, a meter fills, eventually unlocking rage mode for the character. When playing a card while “enraged,” players enter a quick “tap-as-fast-as-you-can” mini-game to increase their damage for that action. After each battle, players may receive card rewards to add to their deck, or golden skulls that are used to level-up the player. Players can purchase booster packs of new cards in the game’s store, and can upgrade or evolve existing cards to make them stronger. Players can even craft new cards using a special kind of currency, which can be earned by disassembling useless cards. “We are proud to release the first free-to-play Warhammer 40,000 game, but it’s only the beginning. Our team is dedicated to developing the game and adding new content, cards, campaigns and gameplay modes, including PvP battles,” said Alexey Sazonov, COO at HeroCraft, in a statement. Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store. The game is compatible with iPad 3+, iPad mini 2+ and iPhone 5+.
